- Call for Applications to the ACE Board
The Action Committee for Eldorado (ACE) is currently seeking climbers interested in serving on the Action Committee Board. The board currently stands at nine members, including representatives from the American Alpine Club, the Access Fund, the American Mountain Guides Association, and the Colorado Mountain Club, and five at large members. Terms are three years.
The ACE holds periodic meetings, currently on the second Wednesday of each month at 5pm. Board members must attend these meetings and should expect to volunteer approximately forty additional hours of service per year. ACE runs the Eldo Fixed Hardware Review Committee (FHRC), which makes recommendations to the Park on fixed hardware proposals, based on input from the climbing community. ACE also periodically engages in special service projects for the Park. Additional time may be required for these projects. If you are interested in helping to preserve and enhance the quality and diversity of climbing opportunities in the Eldorado Canyon State Park, please fill out and submit an application by January 1st, 2012.
Visit www.aceeldo.org, log in, and select the "support" link to submit an application.

Meet Boulder City Council Candiates
The upcoming Boulder City Council elections could affect our access to climbing on City lands, such as the Flatirons. City Council ultimately governs the management of City Open Space lands, and some Council members have recently spoken in favor of more restrictive regulations like bans on off-trail travel and night-time access. Meet the four candidates endorsed by the Boulder Outdoor Coalition, let them know how you feel, and find out more about where they stand this Wednesday, September 28, 5:30-7:00 at Movement Gym. There’s free beer.

Over 200 climbers gathered at Neptune Mountaineering to celebrate climbing in Eldorado Canyon State Park. The event, organized by the Action Committee for Eldorado, highlighted meaning climbing in Eldo holds in the careers of Lynn Hill and Abbey Smith. Abbey and Lynn teamed up to present a unique and progressive view of climbing in Eldo from the era early clean traditional climbing to recent scary test pieces and the bouldering boom. The event raised over $2000 for ACE that will be used to develop or maintain climbing access trails and replace aging fixed hardware.
Piggybacking on presentations by featured speakers, Chris Archer (ACE board member), Steve Muehlhauser (Eldo Climbing Ranger), and Brady Robinson director of the Access Fund spoke about the history of ACE, the valuable relationship between land managers and local climbing organizations, and the importance of stewardship.
Honored at the event were climbing luminaries, Layton Kor, Huntley Ingalls, Pat Ament, Jim Erickson, and many others with links to climbing in Eldo.
Neptune Mountaineering hosted the event. La Sportiva, Deuter, New England Ropes, Trango, Rab, Sharp End Publishing, The Boulder Rock Club, The Spot Gym, Alpine Training Center, and Avery Brewing donated equipment, gym memberships, guidebooks, and beverages.
