The Formula Rappel Anchor Application
Add your Comment about the Formula Application. See the comments. Information from ApplicantThe following information was received from the applicant. I am proposing to add a double bolt anchor at the top of the Formula. The anchor is needed because: Currently the anchor is comprised of two small trees approx. 3-4 in diameter. Rappelling, lowering, and top-roping off of these trees is dangerous for both climbers and the trees. The proposed anchor would be below the trees (which are on a slab); to enhance the pull of the rope and limit the rope wear and abrasion that now occurs. The bolts will be a minimum of 3/8" x 3.5", equalized, placed in vertical alignment, and the hangars will be camouflaged. The height of the rappel is less than 70', so a 60 meter rope would be sufficient for the rap. Information from FHRCOverview The current belay station at the top of the Formula utilizes two small trees on a loose ledge system approximately 65 ft above the base. The trees are very close together in proximity and are approximately 3 inch and 4 inches in diameter. These trees are used for belaying, rappelling and top-roping. There is no fixed protection or solid gear placements nearby to back up or avoid using these natural anchors
